Chess KLUB allows students to explore their games practically, and our weekly tournaments help our students do just that. Let’s take a look at the exceptional games that took place this week and the brilliant winner board.

On 25th September, we had the much-awaited Chess KLUB September Championship, and Ishan Priya took this title home this month. Ishan had a score of 8 points across 9 rounds, and his best game was against the runner up Sabarish Kailasam, who had a score of 7 points.

Sabarish began this game with the Sicilian Defense – Accelerated Dragon Variation, and Ishan lost a minor pierce to a pawn fork in the middle game. Immediately after this loss, the two players exchanged their Queens, and as the game progressed, Sabarish fell for a Bishop fork on his King and Rook, and the position was now equal.

Ishan then made a passed pawn that Sabarish tried to stop but instead fell for a Rook pin upon his Knight and Bishop, after which he resigned. In third place, we had Adhvik Manoj, who also had a score of 7 points. 

On Sunday, we had the Chess KLUB Classic Arena Tournament with Nikitha Kanagaraj at the top of the winner list, who had a wonderful win rate of 77%. Nikitha played an interesting game against the runner up at this event, Jethin Bastin, who had a win rate of 89%. This game began with the Italian Game Opening, and Jethin exchanged his Bishop and Knight for Nikitha’s Rook, and Pawn Nikitha then posed a Knight fork on Jethin’s Rook and Queen and became an exchange up.

Nikitha posed an attack upon Jethin’s King and posed a Royal Fork on Jethin’s King and Queen. This forced Jethin to resign on the 22nd move. In third place, we had Vivaan Budhian with a win rate of 82%.

The Intermediate Battle Arena took place on Tuesday with Ishan Priya as the winner with an excellent win rate of 83%, and Ishan played an extremely engaging game against the runner up at this event Venkata Haricharish Maddeboina who had a win rate of 60%. This game also began with the Italian Game Opening, and both opponents posed attacks on each other’s Kings in the middle game.

Ishan managed to expose his King while using his pawns to strengthen this attack but which Venkata tried to take advantage of. However, with the help of us Rook, Ishan checkmated Venkata’s King on the 24th move. The second runner up at this event was Avyan Yeluguri, who had a win rate of 50%.

On Wednesday, we had the Weekly Classic Arena Tournament with Parv Parikh as the winner with a spectacular win rate of 86%, followed by Aariv Upadhyay with a win rate of 38% and Adithiyaa Vasudevan in third place with a win rate of 67%. Parv and Aariv played the best game of the event that began with Bishop’s Opening and Aariv won a pawn in the middle game.

This was followed by Aariv winning a piece and Parv posing a serious attack upon Aariv’s King. The attack was strong enough to drive Aariv’s King, which Parv used as an advantage to checkmate Aariv’s King on the 20th move.
