USCF Tournament Updates – February 2021
This month’s USCF tournaments saw som exceptional results and some brilliant games. Here we share with you some matches you do not want to miss.
Under 500 Category
On February 14th, we had the Chess KLUB USFC Under- 500 Category, where we had Parv Parikh as the Champion with a perfect score of 5 out of 5 rounds.
In the 4th round, Parv played an exciting game against Ishan Ghate, our runner up at this event, who had a score of 4 out of 5. Ishan began the game with the Queen Pawn, followed by Parv gaining a pawn and two minor pieces in the middle game. Parv followed this advantage by posing a Royal Fork on Ishan’s King and Queen, giving him a major advantage. Parv used this advantage to Checkmate Ishan’s king with the Queen and two Rooks.
In third place, we had Aneesh Parasa with a score of 3.5 out of 5.
Under 1000 Category
In the Under – 1000 category tournament held on 21st February, we had Ishaan Singh as our champion, followed by Adharsh Rajeshkumar as our runner up with both of them having an excellent score of 4.5 out of 5.
Ishaan gained the first seed due to the tiebreaker. In the final round, our winner and runner up played an intense match against each other. Ishaan began the game with the Sicilian Opening, and the game continued to be equal till the middle game, where Adharsh won a pawn. The two then exchanged all minor pieces and Queens and entered the end game with one Rook each. Since the position was more or less, the two decided to take a Draw by mutual agreement on the 39th move.
In third place, we had Kinjal Chatterjee with a score of with a wonderful score of 4 out of 5.
Open Category
Finally, we had the Open Category tournament, Shalini Joseph, as our Champion, followed by Charles Joseph in second place and Shalvi Deshmukh in third place.
In the final round, Charles played a brilliant game against Shalvi Deshmukh. Charles opened the game with the Sicilian Defense, and the game continued to be significantly equal till the middle game. In the middle game, Charles became an exchange down, and he regained this loss by capturing two of Shalvi’s pawns. Charles then posed a serious threat to Shalvi’s king that allowed him to exchange his Bishop for Shalvi’s Rook. Charles used the advantage he gained to convert his attack into a checkmate on the 35th move.
